Preparing for an interview. 7 Steps to follow

Preparing for an interview? By following the steps outlined in this document, you will be better equipped to showcase your skills and abilities and increase your chances of landing the job.


Step 1: Research the Company

  • Familiarise yourself with the company's history, products/services, mission, and values.

  • Look into the company's recent news, projects, and competitors.

  • Try to understand the company's culture and work environment.

Step 2: Review the Job Description and Requirements

  • Carefully read through the job description and requirements.

  • Highlight the skills and qualifications that are most important for the role.

  • Make sure you understand what the company is looking for in a candidate.

Step 3: Prepare a List of Questions

  • Prepare a list of questions to ask the interviewer.

  • Some examples include asking about the company culture, the challenges of the role, and the future plans for the department/company.

  • This will show that you are interested in the company and the role.

Step 4: Review Your Resume and Cover Letter

  • Review your resume and cover letter to make sure they are up to date and relevant to the role.

  • Highlight your relevant skills, experience, and achievements.

  • Make sure your resume is easy to read and free of typos and grammatical errors.

Step 5: Practice Common Interview Questions

  • Prepare answers to common interview questions,such as:

    • Tell me about yourself?

    • Why do you want to work for this company?

    • What are your strengths and weaknesses?

    • Can you tell me about a time when you had to handle a difficult situation?

  • Make sure your answers are concise and to the point.

  • Practice speaking out loud to help build confidence.

Step 6: Dress for Success

  • Choose an appropriate outfit that is professional and reflects the company's culture.

  • Make sure your clothes are clean, pressed, and comfortable.

  • Avoid wearing too much jewelry, aftershave/perfume, or bright colors.

Step 7: Get a Good Night's Sleep and Eat a Healthy Meal

  • Make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before the interview.

  • Eat a healthy meal to help you feel energized and focused.

  • Avoid consuming too much caffeine, sugar, or alcohol before your interview.

Following these steps, you will be well-prepared for your interview and ready to make a great impression. Remember to be confident, speak clearly, and listen actively.
